What is dental practice reporting?
Dental practice reporting is the regular review of figures that show how a practice is performing, such as appointments kept and missed, payments received, new and returning patients, the treatments being done and the revenue they bring in. Good reporting turns a busy practice into one you can steer.
Dental analytics is the same idea applied across time and locations. The aim is not more numbers but the right few, looked at often enough to act on: if no-shows climb, you see it this month, not at year end.
The reports in DentiPoint
- Appointments
How appointments were booked, kept and cancelled, so you can see where the diary leaks.
- Payments
The payments taken over the period you choose.
- Patients
How many patients the practice sees and how that changes.
- Treatment mix
Which treatments the practice is doing, and in what proportion.
- Revenue
The money coming in over the period you choose.
- CSV export
Download any report to analyse or share in a spreadsheet.
Which dental practice KPIs should you track?
Track a small set that you will actually review: appointments attended against booked, missed and cancelled appointments, revenue by treatment, new patients and recalls overdue. These show whether the diary is full, whether it is the right work, and whether patients are returning.
- Attendance and DNAs. Missed appointments are lost chair time.
- Treatment mix. Shows whether the work matches what you want to offer.
- Revenue and payments. Shows what has been earned and what is still owed.
- New and returning patients. Shows growth and loyalty.
Our guide to dental practice KPIs goes through each metric, and the guide to chair time and diary utilisation covers the diary side.
06Groups
One report for the group, one for each practice
If you run more than one practice, you can look at the figures for a single practice or for the whole organisation. Head-office roles see the group, while practice roles see their own site, so each manager works with the figures that are theirs.
- Practice view and group view
- Roles decide who sees what
- Same reports in every practice
How this appointment is funded
Private
Your own price list, per treatment and per practice.
Plan
Membership patients charged what they agreed, with the list price kept beside it.
Public
Public schemes too — for example an NHS course of treatment priced by band, with exemptions recorded.
What reporting does DentiPoint not do?
DentiPoint reports on the practice's operations: the diary, payments, patients, treatments and revenue. It is not an accounting system and does not produce accounts or a ledger export for your accountant, and it does not report on insurance claims. For those, keep your accounting package or claims system alongside it.
For the wider system around the reports, see dental practice management software.
